How to perform a dual card initialization with the Cryptnox Hardware Wallet Dual Pack

Crytpnox is a swiss company developing and producing hardware wallets (cold storage) in smart card format.
In this article, we will describe how to generate two identical cards with the same internally generated random seed.

Introduction

Cryptnox introduced a proprietary and patented protocol to generate an identical random seed internally and simultaneously in TWO Cryptnox Hardware Wallet SmarCards. This is a highly secure way to hold digital assets as the seed never appears in the clear, while at the same time being able to hold a second spare card as backup.

Note: you cannot use two random Cryptnox Hardware Wallet Smartcards. They must be ordered in a pack as they share a unique secret loaded at the factory for additional security.

The Steps

We assume you are already familiar with basic Cryptnox Wallet IOS application. If not, you can have a look at this post.

Have your two cards ready. Launch the Cryptnox Wallet IOS application and scan any of the two cards.

Press “Initialize dual cards”, and follow the instructions.

An then you will have to alternate with the second card, and then one last time with the first one. You will have the following screens sequence:

Once you are on the last screen to the right, you can save the card creation report by pressing the print button (upper right) -> print -> Save to Files -> Icloud Drive.

You will save a document like the following to your Icloud drive:

Note: this document does NOT contain any private key or seed. Your seed is located inside the cards and it is impossible to extract it.

As you can see, you have two card serials for the same addresses. The seed source mentions “Dual”. You can use one or the other, they are exactly the same.

You are good to go.
